This is Acer shirasawanum 'Ruby Red' which I just planted this year. The summer color is a fantastic red, and this mottled coloration has been outstanding all fall. If it does this every year, it will be a great maple to have.

Was wondering if you know for sure if this is a shirasawanum vs japonicum? Does it plants break bud later than japonicums?
ReplyDeleteWe had a discussion about this on the maple forum. Several people talked about the buds when they break resembling a japonicum more than a shirasawanum. How do we know or find out? I don't know.
